Noida, Jan 19: A senior IAS officer lost his post as the head of the Noida Authority after a software engineer died in a road accident involving an open construction pit.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the removal of Lokesh M while simultaneously forming a Special Investigation Team to look into the circumstances that led to the fatal crash in Sector 150.

The SIT, chaired by the ADG of Meerut Zone, is tasked with identifying lapses that resulted in Yuvraj Mehta’s car plunging into a deep, water-filled hole on Saturday.

The tragedy sparked outrage among Noida residents, who noted that the site lacked proper barriers or warnings despite the heavy fog prevalent in the region.

“A three-member Special Investigation Team has been constituted to inquire into the circumstances leading to the accident,” a senior official said.

Investigators have a five-day deadline to deliver their findings directly to the Chief Minister’s office.

The transfer of the Noida CEO was finalized shortly after the inquiry was commissioned, signaling a shift in accountability for urban safety standards.
