Kapurthala, September 26: One person is feared dead after a fire broke out at a mattress manufacturing factory in Nurpur Donna village on Thursday morning. The blaze erupted around 8:15 am, and at the time of reporting, fire brigade teams were still struggling to bring the fire under control.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deep Karan Singh said the fire is difficult to contain due to the large amount of flammable material inside the unit. “A 32-year-old youth, who worked as a security guard, is missing and was reportedly inside the factory at the time of the incident,” he added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Jaswant Singh Kahlon, divisional fire officer, said the department received a call around 8:25 am and immediately dispatched fire tenders from Jalandhar, Phagwara, Rail Coach Factory, and Kapurthala. “More than 200 fire tenders have been pressed into service. Our teams are using water and foam to control the fire,” he said.
Authorities said the fire has caused extensive damage to the property, and rescue operations are ongoing. Residents in nearby areas were evacuated as a precautionary measure, while police and firefighters continue to monitor the situation.
