Abohar, Feb 25: Tragedy struck a family from Panniwala Mahla village after their 26-year-old son, Harman Singh, allegedly ended his life at a private de-addiction centre in Sriganganagar. The youth had been seeking treatment for heroin addiction at the time of the incident on Tuesday morning.
Jawahar Nagar police officials asserted that the incident came to light after a fellow patient noticed a washroom door had remained locked for several hours. When staff and police broke open the door at 6:00 am, they discovered Singh had hanged himself.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Des Raj maintained that the victim was last seen leaving his ward at 2:30 am. Following the discovery, the authorities conducted a preliminary investigation on-site and arranged for a medical examination of the body.
“Inquest proceedings have been initiated based on a complaint by his uncle Jagdev Singh,” the ASI stated. He affirmed that the struggle with substance abuse appeared to be the primary factor in the victim’s decision.
The deceased was the sole male child in his family. After the completion of the post-mortem, the body was handed over to his relatives for the last rites in Abohar. Local authorities declared that they are reviewing the facility’s protocols following the incident.
