Chandigarh, April 8: Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has announced the deployment of a 500-member task force to verify crop losses after recent weather patterns devastated wheat fields in seven districts. The specialized teams are currently monitoring the situation in Fazilka, Mansa, Bathinda, Amritsar, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, and Ferozepur.
The initiative aligns with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s commitment to providing immediate relief to the agricultural sector. According to official reports, roughly 1.25 lakh acres of wheat have been impacted by the rains. To ensure the “Special Girdawari” is executed without delays, 145 senior agriculture officers have been assigned to coordinate directly with local Revenue Department staff.
“The government is committed to compensating losses caused by natural calamities as per prescribed norms,” Khudian affirmed during an inspection of the damage on Wednesday. He noted that the department is working at an accelerated pace to ensure the final assessment is both accurate and transparent for all parties involved.
The minister stated that the administration’s priority is to safeguard the interests of the farming community during this difficult period. Departmental staff have been directed to maintain a constant presence in the fields to offer guidance to farmers seeking to salvage their produce. Khudian declared that compensation would be distributed promptly following the submission of formal loss reports by the respective Deputy Commissioners.
