Over 19,000 Cases Resolved at National Lok Adalat in Chandigarh

Sector 43 court session secures settlements totaling ₹14.25 crore

CHANDIGARH, MAY 10 — The State Legal Services Authority disposed of more than 19,000 cases during a National Lok Adalat organized at the District Courts Complex in Sector 43 on Saturday. Judicial officials affirmed that the extensive day-long initiative resulted in settlements amounting to approximately ₹14.25 crore, effectively reducing the backlog of pending civil and criminal litigation across the city.

The proceedings were conducted by 13 dedicated benches led by judicial officers, addressing a variety of disputes including consumer complaints, bank recovery, and matrimonial issues. Authorities maintained that 10,595 pre-litigation matters and several thousand traffic challans were successfully cleared during the session. Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi, who oversaw the event, asserted that the welfare of children remains the top priority in family settlements, encouraging all parties to opt for peaceful resolutions.

Significant financial resolutions were achieved, with the Debt Recovery Tribunal-II settling 26 cases worth ₹9.71 crore and consumer commissions resolving matters valued at ₹5.46 crore. Organizers stated that the Lok Adalat functions as a crucial platform for affordable and efficient justice, adhering to principles of mutual compromise. Officials declared that the success of the session highlights the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution in providing immediate relief to litigants.
