Over 23 Lakh Parents Join Punjab’s Mega PTM to Strengthen School-Home Ties

Chandigarh, Dec. 22, 2025 — More than 23.30 lakh parents participated in Punjab’s fourth Mega Parents Teachers Meeting (PTM) and Parents’ Workshop, organised by the School Education Department to deepen parent involvement in children’s learning across government schools.

The programme, conducted simultaneously across the state, covered students from pre-primary to senior secondary classes and was supported by visits to over 7,500 schools by MLAs, senior administrators and education officials.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains led the Mega PTM at Government Senior Secondary School (Girls), Sri Anandpur Sahib. AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia attended the programme at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Paddi Sura Singh, in Hoshiarpur district. Senior officials including Secretary School Education Anindita Mitra and Director SCERT Kiran Sharma also took part.

Bains said the government was institutionalising parent engagement as a core component of school education. “Parents are partners in learning. Through ‘Maa Peyo di Bhagidari,’ we are creating a shared responsibility for children’s academic progress and well-being,” he said.

The minister said over 40,000 teachers were trained to conduct Parents’ Workshops using a common framework. These sessions were designed to help parents understand academic goals, learning expectations and practical ways to support children at home.

School Management Committees played a central role in mobilising parents and coordinating meetings, while trained teachers facilitated discussions on students’ interests, aspirations and learning gaps.

PTM interactions began with appreciation of students’ efforts and parental support, creating a constructive environment for dialogue, Bains said. For the first time, parents were briefed on upcoming academic initiatives and clear learning goals.

The Education Department said the initiative aims to strengthen parent-school partnerships, improve attendance, support emotional well-being and create better learning outcomes through sustained collaboration between families and schools.
