Over 9 kg heroin seized near Punjab border

AMRITSAR, July 15 —Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered more than 9 kg of heroin in separate operations along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts on Monday.

Officials confirmed that the seizures were the result of targeted search operations, launched following precise intelligence inputs from the BSF’s internal wing earlier in the afternoon.

“A major consignment of heroin, weighing 3.556 kg, was discovered in a cultivated field near Thetherke village in Gurdaspur,” a BSF spokesperson said. “The drugs were packed in three smaller packets, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and fitted with an iron hook.”

In a separate case, BSF teams in Amritsar intercepted another large consignment based on a similar tip-off. “Troops recovered a package weighing 6.250 kg, consisting of five smaller packets of heroin,” the spokesperson added. “It was found in agricultural land near Kakkar village. As in the Gurdaspur case, the narcotics were tightly wrapped in yellow tape and this time fastened with a wooden hook.”

Both seizures suggest a continuing pattern of attempts to smuggle drugs across the international border using aerial delivery mechanisms such as drones.

“These operations once again demonstrate BSF’s constant vigilance and resolve in curbing cross-border narcotics trafficking,” the spokesperson said. “Our intelligence network and ground troops are working in close coordination to ensure smugglers do not succeed.”

The contraband has been handed over to local authorities for further investigation.
