NEW DELHI, May 10 – India has accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire understanding reached earlier in the day, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stating that Pakistan is responsible for renewed border intrusions even after both countries agreed to halt military actions.
“An understanding was reached this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan to stop the military action that was going on for the last few days,” Misri told reporters during a press briefing in the capital.
“For the last few hours, this understanding is being violated by Pakistan. The Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion.”
Calling the intrusion “extremely condemnable,” Misri held Pakistan directly accountable. “We believe that Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion,” he added.
The ceasefire, intended to de-escalate several days of heightened military conflict along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC), was announced earlier Saturday following DGMO-level discussions between the two nations.
Despite the agreement, Misri confirmed that Indian forces have been instructed to remain on high alert.
“The Armed Forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation and have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the borders along the international border as well as the line of control,” he said.
The statement comes amid renewed tensions and precautionary measures in several Indian border states, as officials warn that further violations will be met with firm military response.
