FEROZEPUR, May 8 — A Pakistani national attempting to cross into Indian territory was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the early hours of Thursday, amid growing strain between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The infiltration occurred around 2:30 a.m. near Gate No. 207/1, close to the Lakha Singh Wala BSF post in Mamdot block of Ferozepur district.
According to BSF officials, troops spotted the individual during routine patrol and issued warnings.
“Despite repeated calls to stop, the intruder continued advancing toward the fence. Our troops were left with no option but to open fire,” a senior BSF officer said.
The identity of the deceased is still unknown. Authorities have launched a probe to ascertain whether the individual had any connections to terror outfits or was acting on his own.
“We are examining all angles, including the possibility of the intruder being linked to a larger network,” the official added.
The attempted breach comes as Punjab remains on high alert, with additional security measures enforced along the India-Pakistan border.
Surveillance has been stepped up in response to recent threats and the escalation in hostilities following India’s cross-border operation.
With tensions running high, security agencies are monitoring movements along the border closely.
“There is zero tolerance for any incursion attempts. Our forces are fully prepared to respond to any threat,” the officer said.
