PANIPAT, Dec 4 — Police in Panipat have arrested a woman suspected of murdering four children, including her own son and her niece, officials said on Wednesday.
The latest victim, six-year-old Vidhi of Bhawar village, was found in a water tub in a Naultha village house after she went missing during a relative’s wedding on December 1.
“She was a psycho-killer who felt jealous of beautiful girls and derived satisfaction from killing them,” SP Bhupender Singh said. “Poonam drowned the children so that their deaths appeared natural.”
Poonam (32), originally from Sewah village, admitted to killing nine-year-old Ishika and her three-year-old son Shubham in 2023, and six-year-old Jia in August 2025. Police said she killed her son to conceal Ishika’s murder.
The investigation involved DSP Naveen Sandhu, SHO Israna, and forensic expert Dr. Neelam Arya. Evidence was collected before the Israna police registered a murder case. The CIA-1 team, led by Inspector Phool Singh, tracked down Poonam, who confessed to the crimes during interrogation.
A separate case has been registered for Jia’s murder. The accused has been sent to judicial custody.
