AAP Media In-charge says revealing drug locations aids traffickers

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Feb 8: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu has termed the recent actions of Member of Parliament Charanjit Singh Channi as irresponsible, following the release of a social media video identifying specific locations where narcotics are allegedly sold. Pannu stated that such public disclosures serve to promote drug hotspots rather than assist in their elimination.

Addressing the matter in Chandigarh on Saturday, Pannu mentioned that a public representative holding a high office should focus on stopping the trade through official channels. He noted that the act of publicizing these sites could be seen as a move to support smugglers during the state’s ongoing crackdown on illegal substances.

“A person holding a responsible position should work to stop drugs, not promote places where drugs are sold,” Pannu said. He noted that instead of releasing videos, the duty of an MP is to provide such information directly to the police for immediate action.

Pannu stated that the current administration is working to eradicate the drug menace which he claimed flourished under previous Akali-BJP and Congress governments. He mentioned that the ‘War Against Drugs’ led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has created significant pressure on traffickers, and such videos might interfere with these efforts.

“Channi should clarify whether he stands with the Punjab government’s ‘war against drugs’ or with drug traffickers,” Pannu added. He noted that the government remains firm in its resolve to root out drugs despite political obstacles.
