Patiala Heritage Fair showcases rich cultural legacy with Sufi, Pop evening

Local administration honors Manmohan Waris, Kamal Heer, and Manak Ali for contribution to folk music

Patiala, Feb 18: The Polo Ground in Patiala was transformed into a vibrant hub of Punjabi culture on Tuesday evening as the ongoing Heritage Festival hosted a series of high-profile musical performances. The event featured renowned artists Manmohan Waris, Kamal Heer, and Manak Ali, who enlivened the festival with a mix of traditional folk, Sufi melodies, and contemporary pop.

The evening’s proceedings were marked by a seamless transition from spiritual Sufi renditions to high-energy folk songs. Kamal Heer opened his set with nostalgic tracks before moving into crowd favorites like “Jaari Jang Rakhio,” while Manmohan Waris moved the audience with “Mera Mitra Pyara Hoouge.”

The brothers maintained a strong connection with the attendees, often performing songs based on direct requests from the audience, creating an interactive and festive atmosphere.

In their address to the crowd, the Waris brothers stated that the Punjab Government deserves congratulations for creating such a significant cultural platform. They asserted that well-organized festivals encourage artists to deliver their best performances while ensuring that the younger generation has the opportunity to learn about their history and traditions. The singers also noted the importance of supporting clean and meaningful lyrical content in modern music.

Reflecting on the success of the sixth day, Mayor Kundan Gogia and Chairman Tejinder Mehta stated that the Patiala Heritage Mela has proven essential in providing information about the state’s valuable heritage to the coming generation. They affirmed that such events are instrumental in keeping the spirit of Punjab alive. The officials, along with Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia, presented awards of honor to the visiting performers in recognition of their artistic contributions.

The ceremony saw attendance from several prominent figures, including ADC Simarpreet Kaur, SDM Harjot Kaur Mavi, and SP Palwinder Singh Cheema. Authorities declared that the festival continues to be a major success, drawing music lovers from across the region to celebrate the diverse artistic landscape of Punjab.
