Patiala, Feb 18: A large number of Patiala residents gathered at Barandari Bagh on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the annual Flower Exhibition and Food Festival. The event, which displays the city’s botanical heritage and culinary diversity, was inaugurated by Baltej Pannu, Media Advisor and AAP State General Secretary, in the presence of senior district officials.

The grounds were adorned with more than 2,000 floral exhibits, ranging from traditional blossoms to intricate bonsai and cactus displays. In addition to the visual spectacle, the festival offered a wide array of local cuisines through 20 dedicated food stalls and promoted sustainable agriculture with 25 organic product outlets.

During his address, Baltej Pannu affirmed the importance of maintaining the unique identity of Patiala as a center for culture and nature. He maintained that the heritage of the city is a collective treasure that requires active participation from the public to be saved for future generations. He also appealed to the citizens to maintain a clean environment while enjoying the city’s green spaces.
Deputy Commissioner Varjit Walia stated that the festival serves a dual purpose by fostering an appreciation for nature and boosting the local economy through trader participation. He declared that the administration remains focused on enhancing the greenery of the city and protecting its historic landmarks. Officials noted that the large attendance on the first day reflects the deep connection residents have with their local heritage.
Deputy Director of Horticulture Harinderpal Singh announced that 25 participants were honored for their excellence in various floral categories. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Simarpreet Kaur and SDM Harjot Kaur, who joined the public in exploring the fragrant displays and organic markets.
