Mumbai, Aug 31 — Television actress Priya Marathe, best known for her role in the popular serial Pavitra Rishta, passed away in Mumbai on Sunday after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was 38.
Born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai, Marathe completed her schooling and college in the city before pursuing acting. She made her television debut with the Marathi serial Ya Sukhanova and went on to appear in Char Divas Sasuche.
Marathe rose to prominence playing Varsha Satish in Pavitra Rishta, one of the most-watched shows of its time. She also portrayed Vidya Bali in Balaji Telefilms’ Kasamh Se and appeared in the first season of Comedy Circus. In 2012, she joined the cast of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain on Sony TV, where she played the character Jyoti Malhotra.
Over the years, she featured in several other television dramas, including Tu Tithe Me, Bhaage Re Mann, Jayastute, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.
Marathe also ventured into films, acting in the 2008 Hindi movie Humne Jeena Seekh Liya and the Marathi film Ti Ani Itar, directed by Govind Nihalani.
She married fellow actor Shantanu Moghe in 2012.
