PGIMER Launching Advanced Neurosciences, Mother-Childcare Centres

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 18 — The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is set to open two advanced healthcare facilities — the Advanced Neurosciences Centre (ANC) and the Advanced Mother and Childcare Centre (AMCC) — to meet the region’s rising demand for specialised medical care.

According to a PGIMER official, the construction of the seven-storey Advanced Neurosciences Centre is 99% complete, with testing and commissioning already underway. The ₹284-crore facility, spread over 47,619 square metres, will offer 300 beds, critical and emergency neurological services, and 11 operation theatres for complex surgeries, including cerebrovascular and spinal procedures.

The centre, which also features a two-level basement parking for 232 cars, is expected to become operational by April.

The six-storey Advanced Mother and Childcare Centre, built at a cost of ₹182 crore, is 91% complete. It will house 300 beds, six modular operation theatres, a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and a human milk bank. The NICU capacity at PGIMER will expand from 22 to 105 beds, significantly boosting critical care services for newborns. The facility, which includes basement parking for 132 cars, is expected to be ready by May 31.

Both centres, approved by the central government in 2017, faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While construction is nearing completion, statutory approvals, including fire NOC and water connection, are still pending. Officials said the buildings adhere to the National Building Code and Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) standards, though certification is yet to be acquired.
