New Delhi, Sept. 30 – The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Tuesday clarified that a viral video showing Ladakh Director General of Police SD Singh claiming activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested on directions of the Defence Minister is digitally altered.
The PIB Fact Check unit said the DGP has made no such statement. “A digitally altered video of Ladakh DGP Dr. SD Singh is circulating on social media, in which he is shown making claims that Sonam Wangchuk was arrested on directions of the defence minister, without any evidence,” the statement read.
The bureau warned that AI-generated videos like this are shared to mislead the public, cause confusion, and incite panic. “Beware of such content and always verify information before sharing,” the PIB added, urging citizens to help curb the spread of misinformation.
This advisory comes amid increasing circulation of manipulated media online, highlighting the need for vigilance in consuming and sharing digital content.
