Kurukshetra, Nov 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday commemorated the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, praising the Guru’s dedication to truth, justice, and faith. Speaking at a special programme, Modi said the government remains committed to serving the ‘guru parampara’.
The Prime Minister released a commemorative coin and stamp marking the occasion. “Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji considered the protection of truth and justice as his dharma. He sacrificed his life for it, and it is our duty to carry forward this legacy,” he said.
Modi recalled his earlier visit to Ayodhya, saying, “This morning I was in Ramayan ki Nagri, and now I am here on Lord Krishna’s land. On the day of the Ram temple verdict in 2019, I was at Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab, praying for the fulfilment of devotees’ aspirations. Our prayers were answered when the verdict came in favour of the Ram temple.”
The event also marked the unveiling of the ‘Panchjanya’ memorial, dedicated to the sacred conch of Lord Krishna. Modi quoted the Mahabharata’s teaching, saying, “Swadharme nidhanam shreyah,” stressing that dying for truth is a greater dharma. He said Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji embodied this principle.
“I am grateful to seek blessings from the Sikh Sangat today,” Modi added, highlighting the spiritual and cultural importance of the occasion.
