NEW DELHI, Dec. 12 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone on Thursday to take stock of progress in the India-US strategic partnership, focusing on cooperation in defence, technology, energy and global security.
The discussion occurred less than a week after Modi’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and amid pointed questions in the US Congress over Trump’s India policy.
In a post on X, Modi said the two leaders had a “warm and engaging conversation” and reviewed bilateral ties. “We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments,” the prime minister said, adding that both countries would continue working together “for global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Officials said the leaders underlined the need to sustain momentum in bilateral trade and deepen coordination under the COMPACT framework — a platform aimed at accelerating military partnership, commerce and advanced technologies. They also discussed regional developments and agreed to work closely on shared challenges.
