Patiala, March 25: A six-month search for Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra concluded Wednesday as Punjab Police arrested the MLA on serious criminal charges, including rape and cheating. The lawmaker had been missing since early September 2025, prompting the judiciary to officially label him a proclaimed offender prior to his capture.
The development adds to a week of significant legal action against state officials, coming shortly after the arrest of MLA Laljit Bhullar in a separate matter. Detectives had been working under the constraints of a lookout notice issued to all exit points to ensure the legislator remained within reach of the law.
Patiala police officers carried out the arrest following an intensive period of surveillance and intelligence gathering. A spokesperson for the Punjab government declared that the administration is committed to following the legal process. The official asserted that the MLA has been processed and will face the court shortly to address the allegations of criminal intimidation and sexual assault.
The case against Pathanmajra began when an FIR was filed detailing the alleged offenses, which the lawmaker reportedly committed before disappearing from public view. Investigators declared that the transition from a standard investigation to a manhunt occurred once the accused stopped cooperating with the judicial mandates.
