Ludhiana, Nov 13: Ludhiana Police have initiated a citywide campaign targeting the illegal sale of tobacco products and e-cigarettes near schools, officials said Thursday. The move is part of an ongoing effort to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said the campaign was carried out through joint operations led by multiple police teams. Officers from ACP-South, ACP-Industrial Area-B, and Zone-02 police stations participated in the enforcement drive.
Police teams conducted surprise inspections at various points near educational institutions and took immediate action against shopkeepers and street vendors found selling tobacco or e-cigarettes to minors or within restricted areas.
“This campaign makes it clear that Ludhiana Police is serious about enforcing the law and protecting students from exposure to harmful substances,” Sharma said. “Such drives will continue in the future to ensure strict compliance.”
Officials said the campaign was also meant to raise awareness among the business community about the legal consequences of selling restricted products to minors.
The police have called on residents to remain vigilant and report any instance of illegal tobacco or e-cigarette sales near schools. “Community cooperation is crucial in keeping our children safe,” Sharma added.
