Gurdaspur, Feb 25: Gurdaspur police neutralized one suspect and apprehended another during a high-stakes encounter on the Gurdaspur-Mukerian road. The deceased, Ranjit Singh, was wanted in connection with the killings of ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar at a border checkpost.
SSP Aditya affirmed that while one accused is in custody and another is dead, Inderjeet Singh, the third suspect, escaped the cordon. The SSP declared that efforts to locate the remaining fugitive are ongoing. The gunfight, which took place near the Tibri cantonment area, also left CIA SHO Gurmeet Singh wounded; however, he is currently receiving medical care at the Civil Hospital.
The narrative of the case shifted when police moved to detain Ranjit Singh’s family members in Adhian. This development prompted the suspect to surrender to the authorities prior to the encounter. Investigators maintained that the trio was responsible for the violent incident at the Adhian checkpost.
“The police are not disclosing the name of the second accused at this stage,” SSP Aditya asserted. He also noted that the family background of the deceased involves a father currently incarcerated abroad. DIG Border Sandeep Goel is scheduled to address the media shortly to clarify the sequence of events and the status of the ongoing investigation.
