Hemkunt Sahib, March 16: The upcoming pilgrimage season for Shri Hemkunt Sahib will officially begin on May 23, 2026, following a mutual agreement between the Management Trust and the Uttarakhand state administration. During a detailed deliberation with the Chief Secretary, Trust President Narinder Jeet Singh Bindra affirmed that the earlier opening date is a response to the reduced snowfall observed this season. He declared that while climate change has made weather patterns more unpredictable, the current favorable conditions allow for a slightly advanced schedule compared to previous years.
The Uttarakhand Government has assured full cooperation to facilitate a smooth pilgrimage for the thousands of devotees expected to visit both the Char Dham and Shri Hemkunt Sahib. Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan stated that the state is prioritizing the safety and comfort of pilgrims through enhanced coordination with local authorities. The Trust maintained that it will continue its tradition of providing free community services and lodging at key transit points such as Joshimath, Ghangaria, and Ratura to support the traveling Sangat.
Given the challenging terrain and the altitude of the shrine, officials asserted that certain restrictions remain in place, specifically prohibiting overnight stays at the Gurudwara itself. The Trust declared that these measures are essential for the well-being of the devotees. They maintained that the spiritual importance of the site, as described in the Dasam Granth, draws a global audience, making organized management a top priority for both the religious body and the government.
As the opening date approaches, the Trust has urged all pilgrims to stay informed through official announcements and to complete all necessary registrations before starting their journey. Officials affirmed that the focus remains on ensuring a divine and peaceful experience for everyone seeking spiritual renewal in the Himalayas. The administration asserted that further guidelines regarding road safety and health precautions will be issued periodically to assist those undertaking the journey.
