Panipat/Sonipat, June 17: Sunil, the main accused in the brutal murder of 24-year-old Haryanvi model Sheetal, has been remanded to two-day police custody following his arrest on Monday.

At a press briefing, DSP (HQ) Satish Vats confirmed that the CIA-1 team, led by SI Sandeep and acting under the direction of SP Bhupinder Singh, nabbed Sunil, a resident of Israna, who later confessed to the murder during initial interrogation.

According to police, Sheetal, a resident of Satkartar Colony in Panipat, was reported missing on June 15 by her sister at Matlauda police station. A case was registered under Section 127(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), triggering search operations.

On June 17, Sonipat police recovered a woman’s body from the Delhi Parallel Canal near Kharkhoda, later identified as Sheetal.

Sunil told investigators that he had known Sheetal since they met at a mall in Panipat. On June 14, after picking her up from a shoot, an argument broke out over a phone call she received from another man. In a fit of rage, Sunil allegedly stabbed her multiple times inside the car, injuring himself in the process.

He then disposed of her body in the canal and attempted to mislead police by dumping the car into the water, staging it as an accident, DSP Vats added.

Police have recovered the car, Sheetal’s mobile phone, and shoes. During the remand, they will question Sunil further and attempt to recover the murder weapon, officials said.
