Private Schools Told to Integrate with Vidya Samiksha Kendra

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, July 12— The UT Education Department has directed all private schools in Chandigarh to complete onboarding and integration with the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) — a real-time School Education Monitoring System designed to drive data-led governance and academic reforms.

In a formal order, Director School Education stated that VSK integration is key to creating a comprehensive data-based assessment of Chandigarh’s education ecosystem. “This initiative will help the department accurately evaluate teaching quality, resource needs, and student outcomes — ultimately ensuring every child has equitable access to quality education,” the order reads.

At present, the system is functional for government schools and is linked to the Rashtriya Vidya Samiksha Kendra (RVSK) at CIET-NCERT, New Delhi. However, the department said that as the city moves towards full digital infrastructure across all educational institutions, onboarding private schools with valid UDISE+ codes has become a priority.

“This is essential to fully realise the VSK’s potential,” said Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, Director School Education. “The aim is to ensure consistent, real-time data across attendance, assessment, administration, and accreditation for all schools. While private schools already report daily attendance to RVSK, integration with the complete data framework is necessary.”

Brar added that a list of key performance indicators (KPIs) would soon be shared with schools to guide dataset submissions. Dinesh Kumar, Project Manager (MIS) in the office of the Director School Education, will serve as the nodal point for technical integration.

Officials said the VSK will serve as a “force-multiplier”, offering near real-time insight into how schools are performing and where interventions — whether in curriculum, pedagogy or infrastructure — are most urgently needed.

According to the department, the VSK supports decision-making across all levels of education and is crucial to monitoring the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The platform allows administrators, teachers, and policymakers to access and analyse dynamic datasets to guide reforms and monitor progress.

As Chandigarh pushes toward a more transparent and accountable education system, the integration of private institutions into the VSK platform marks a critical step in building a unified education data system across the city.
