Chandigarh, October 29: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the death of Aqil Akhtar, son of former Punjab DGP (Human Rights) Mohammad Mustafa, said on Tuesday that preliminary inquiries suggest there were tensions between the deceased and his father.

“There was undoubtedly some tension between the father and son,” said ACP Vikram Nehra, who leads the SIT. “Aqil had ideological differences with his family, which he himself mentioned in the viral video. Our main focus is to ascertain the cause of death.”

Nehra said police have questioned nine personnel who were part of the security detail at Mustafa’s residence and will interrogate the household staff next. “We have completed the search of the house and recovered Aqil’s phone and laptop. The family has not been called for questioning yet,” he added.

In a parallel development, the Haryana government has requested that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) take over the probe into the case registered against Mustafa, his wife and former minister Razia Sultana, as well as their daughter and daughter-in-law, following Aqil’s death.
