Probe Launched Into Drone-Based Smuggling

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Dec 23: Punjab Police have launched a preliminary investigation to identify those involved in cross-border narco-smuggling after nearly 12 kg of suspected heroin was recovered in Amritsar district, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said Tuesday.

The consignment was seized near Dalleke village by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (Border Range) in coordination with the Border Security Force, following inputs about drone activity in the area.

“A case has been registered, and a preliminary investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages using technical evidence and human intelligence,” Yadav said in a post on X.

Police said investigators are examining possible cross-border connections and local networks that may have been involved in receiving or distributing the narcotics.

Yadav said the state police remained focused on tackling emerging smuggling methods. “Punjab Police remains firm in its resolve to counter drone-based narco-smuggling and dismantle drug networks across the border belt,” he said.

Officials said enhanced coordination with central forces and the use of technological surveillance were key components of the ongoing crackdown.
