PATIALA, JAN 31– Harpal Juneja took over the reins of the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) as its new Chairman on Sunday, marking the occasion with a religious ceremony at the state body’s headquarters.
The transition comes as the state government signals a major push to strengthen public transit infrastructure across Punjab, officials said.
The ceremony saw a high-profile gathering of the state cabinet, where Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar disclosed that 1,300 additional buses are slated for introduction to serve the public.

Providing a breakdown of the expansion, Juneja said the PRTC would specifically integrate 309 large buses, 100 midi buses, and 254 vehicles through the kilometer scheme into its existing fleet.
“I will fulfill the huge responsibility given by the party with full dedication and honesty,” Juneja said.
He further mentioned that he would work tirelessly to ensure the institution remains on a path of steady progress.

Minister Bhullar said that the state’s transport landscape has shifted significantly, with government-operated buses now outperforming private players following the cancellation of illegal permits.
Addressing the welfare of the workforce, the Minister added, “The employees of PRTC are also our family, so the Punjab government is giving relief to them by accepting their legitimate demands.”
The event was attended by several senior leaders who noted that the appointment of a grassroots worker like Juneja would help the PRTC reach new heights of service and efficiency.
