PSEB directs centers to translate missing exam questions

Board officials respond to 15-mark error in Class VIII science paper

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, Feb 20: The Punjab School Education Board has initiated a review following reports of missing content in the Class VIII science exam papers printed in Punjabi. The discrepancy involved three five-mark questions that were absent from one set of the paper, causing widespread confusion among students and faculty at exam centres throughout Punjab.

Following the discovery of the error, the PSEB Chairman convened a meeting to manage the fallout. A spokesperson for the board affirmed that centre heads were directed to provide translations from the Hindi or English sets so that students could attempt the full 80-mark paper.

Teachers at various centres stated that the missing 15-mark weightage was brought to their attention by students early in the session. The oversight specifically affected the long-answer portion of the science curriculum, which typically concludes the examination.

“In the Punjabi medium set, the three major five-mark questions were simply not there, meaning students could not attempt a 15-mark section,” one invigilator declared. This prompted school heads to quickly report the matter to board authorities for a formal resolution.

The PSEB spokesperson maintained that the board is taking the matter seriously and has instructed all staff to assist students in completing their papers. He stated that the board will evaluate the situation further to prevent similar printing issues in future examinations.
