PU Foreign Student Numbers Rise

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Dec 16 — Panjab University has nearly doubled its foreign student intake this academic session, officials said, though overall international representation remains small. Currently, 48 foreign nationals are enrolled, up from 24 last year.

Of the 48 students, 22 are newly admitted, 26 are continuing, and another 26 are on Indian Council for Cultural Relations scholarships. Others are self-financed. Students come from countries including Canada, Afghanistan, Tanzania, Angola, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Malawi, Botswana, Thailand, Iran, South Sudan, Nigeria, Egypt, and Zimbabwe. Most hail from South Asia and Africa, with limited representation from North America.

“PU is constantly trying to improve our outreach, particularly for students from disadvantaged regions,” said Kewal Krishan, dean of international students. “We’re expanding publicity through social media and involving our current students to showcase academic and financial opportunities at Panjab University.”

Foreign students are enrolled in a broad range of programs including UIPS, DCSA, forensic sciences, biotechnology, psychology, UIAMS, UIET, microbiology, Gandhian and peace studies, Indian theatre, German, Hindi, and law.
