Chandigarh, July 25: A gold chain with a pendant was snatched from a Panjab University employee during an evening walk in Sector 46-D on Tuesday night, police said Friday.

The victim, Poonam Grover, a senior assistant at the university, was walking near her residence around 9:10 p.m. with her mother when an unidentified youth on a black motorcycle snatched her chain and sped away.

According to Grover’s complaint, the assailant, wearing a blue chequered shirt, approached her from behind just as she was passing in front of a house. The gold chain, weighing around 1.5 tola, was snatched before she could react.

“The incident happened so fast, I couldn’t see the registration number of the bike,” she told the police, adding that she could identify the suspect if shown to her.

Though shaken, Grover did not sustain any injuries and declined a medical examination.

A case under Section 304 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area in a bid to identify and trace the accused.
