Chandigarh, April 03: Bus passengers in Punjab faced disruptions as employees of Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) staged a two-hour blockade from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, halting all government bus operations.
The protest, led by the Punjab Roadways Contract Workers Union, demands the regularization of contract employees.
Union leaders claim their demands for permanent jobs and salary hikes have been ignored despite repeated assurances.
“We are neither being given permanent jobs nor a salary increase. Our hard work is not being respected,” a union leader said.
Warning of an escalation, the union has threatened a complete shutdown of government bus services across Punjab from April 7 to April 9 if their demands are not met.
The three-day strike would affect nearly 2,800 buses, impacting lakhs of passengers.
