Punjab Bus Union Warns of Indefinite Strike

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Nov 12: The Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and PRTC Contract Workers Union has warned of an indefinite strike, threatening to halt bus operations across the state from Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning if their demands are not addressed.

The decision follows what the union called the state government’s continued indifference toward resolving long-pending issues. “If our demands are ignored in the meeting on November 12, we will stop bus services throughout Punjab,” the union said in a statement.

Union state presidents Russian Singh and Jagtar Singh accused the government of going back on its promises. “The government had pledged to regularize temporary employees before the elections, but even after months of discussions, no progress has been made,” they said.

The leaders added that the workers have grown increasingly frustrated. “We have been patient for too long. Now, if our demands are not fulfilled, we will have no option but to launch an indefinite agitation,” they said.

The strike threat comes amid warnings from various unions about the state’s delay in addressing employee grievances. Officials said emergency arrangements could be considered to minimize public inconvenience if the strike goes ahead.
