DERA BABA NANAK, November 27 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday distributed ₹377 crore in flood relief to more than 30,000 families affected by recent devastating floods.

Speaking to the public, Mann said, “The pain of affected families is beyond words. During my visits to flood-hit areas, I directly heard people’s suffering. The government stands firmly with every family during this difficult time.” He also lauded volunteers and social organizations from Punjab and other states for their efforts.

Farmers impacted by the floods are receiving ₹20,000 per acre as crop compensation, while families whose homes were completely destroyed are getting ₹1.2 lakh each. Mann noted that 8,056 homes in Gurdaspur district alone were among those affected.

The Chief Minister explained that the relief will be distributed in three installments, with ₹70,000 already released. In addition, home rebuilding has been included under MGNREGA, providing 90 days of employment per household to aid reconstruction. “This 90-day work is separate from the ₹1.2 lakh grant and ensures financial support plus employment,” Mann said.

Despite severe losses estimated at ₹13,500 crore, Punjab continues to supply nearly 150 lakh tonnes of rice to the national pool. Mann called on the Centre to immediately release the ₹1,600 crore relief package announced earlier.

Highlighting the scale of the effort, Mann said, “Providing relief to over 30,000 families at once is a historic achievement. The Mann government has stood by its people like a family member in this crisis.”
