Punjab crosses 11 lakh MSP payments as paddy procurement hits 99%

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Nov 16: The Punjab government has described the ongoing paddy procurement season as one of its smoothest and most efficient in recent years, claiming what it called a “historic achievement” under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. As of November 12, MSP payments have been credited to 11,31,270 farmers across the state.

Officials said the procurement system has been running at full strength under the supervision of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, with Patiala emerging as the leading district where 96,920 farmers have already received MSP benefits.

By November 12, mandis across Punjab had recorded arrivals of 1,54,78,162.41 metric tonnes of paddy. Of this, 1,53,89,039.51 metric tonnes—almost the entire crop—has been procured, reflecting a 99 per cent completion rate.

The government also reported steady movement of grain from marketplaces to storage, with lifting touching 1,41,09,483.18 metric tonnes, or 91 per cent of the procured stock.

Officials said the performance reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to farmers, emphasising timely procurement, seamless lifting and prompt MSP disbursal as key priorities for the season.
