Punjab DGP Backs Jalandhar FIR Amid Delhi Assembly Row

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, Jan 12 – Defending his force amid a brewing legal battle with the Delhi Assembly, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday insisted that the FIR against the “doctored” video of leader Atishi was registered strictly according to legal protocols. The Jalandhar police had earlier termed the video—shared by BJP leaders—as manipulated to falsely attribute derogatory remarks against Sikh gurus.

“Due process of law was followed,” Yadav told reporters, marking the first time the top cop has addressed the FIR that has led to a breach of privilege notice against him. The Delhi Assembly claims the video is House property and that the Punjab Police interference is unwarranted.

The DGP’s remarks were made alongside the announcement of seven arrests in the high-profile murder of Valtoha sarpanch Jarmal Singh. The shooters were tracked down to Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and arrested in a joint operation with central agencies. “The operation involved close coordination with central agencies and police forces from other states,” Yadav noted, highlighting the inter-state reach of the investigation.

Jarmal Singh was shot point-blank on January 4 in Amritsar, an attack later claimed by foreign-based gangsters. While one conspirator was killed in an earlier encounter, the latest arrests include five men from Mohali and Tarn Taran who allegedly provided local support. The DGP reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for organized crime, stating that “no criminal would be spared, irrespective of where they are hiding.”
