Chandigarh, Feb 23: To bolster nutritional support across the state, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has unveiled the ‘Meri Rasoi Yojna,’ a program benefiting 40 lakh families with free essential food commodities. The announcement, made on Monday, clarifies that these kits are an additional benefit beyond the standard wheat rations.

The Chief Minister stated that the initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring every child in Punjab has access to a nutritious diet. He maintained that the government has developed a robust mechanism for the quarterly distribution of lentils, sugar, salt, turmeric, and mustard oil, starting in the new financial year.

“Our government knows how to generate resources for people’s welfare schemes and works with honesty and vision,” Mann declared. He further noted that the upcoming state budget would continue to prioritize people-centric measures to protect the interests of all social sectors.

Under the new guidelines, the Department of Food and Civil Supplies will manage the delivery process. The Chief Minister affirmed that strict quality checks will be enforced, stating that any irregularities or sub-standard supplies would result in immediate disciplinary action.

Addressing the historical context of the state’s agriculture, Mann declared that while Punjab has long fed the nation, the government must now ensure no family within its own borders faces hunger. He asserted that the administration is dedicated to spending every penny of public money on direct public service.

“Starting from the month of April, these kits will be distributed free of cost every quarter,” the Chief Minister stated. He affirmed that this measure serves as a moral obligation to the residents of Punjab.
