CHANDIGARH, MAY 7 — Following blasts in the Khasa area of Amritsar and at BSF Chowk in Jalandhar, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema declared that the state government will not permit anyone to weaken the unity of Punjab. The Minister stated on Wednesday that these acts of violence are part of a destructive agenda aimed at creating an atmosphere of fear ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Minister Cheema stated that the AAP leadership recently brought the concerns of Punjab’s three crore residents to the President of India, which he claimed triggered a wave of aggressive rhetoric from the BJP. He affirmed that the opposition often bypasses discussions on the economy to focus on polarizing voters through caste and religious discrimination. He stated that such tactics have been observed in other states and are now being directed toward Punjab.
“The Bhagwant Mann government will not allow anyone to terrorize Punjab or weaken its social fabric,” Minister Cheema asserted. He noted that the bravery and resilience of Punjabis, from the freedom struggle to modern border defense, serve as a bulwark against those attempting to incite violence. He declared that the state’s heritage of peace and brotherhood is too strong to be dismantled by outside political interference.
The Minister maintained that the current administration’s priority remains the maintenance of law and order alongside the provision of world-class social services. He stated that while the BJP relies on destabilizing democracy and poaching elected representatives, the AAP is affirmed in its commitment to politics based on merit and work. He concluded by assuring the public that the government is prepared to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the nation at all costs.
