Jalandhar, May 14: The Punjab government has withdrawn the official security cover of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raman Arora, who represents the Jalandhar Central constituency.
Arora confirmed the development on Tuesday, expressing surprise and demanding an explanation.
“The government should answer why my security has been withdrawn. I don’t have a single security personnel with me at the moment,” he said.
The withdrawal came to light late Monday when Arora’s security head was instructed to report back to his commandant along with the remaining personnel, leaving the MLA without any official protection.
Although no formal reason has been issued by the state government, party sources pointed to internal displeasure over Arora’s attendance at a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-organised event in March.
The event, held in Jalandhar, commemorated the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Repeated attempts to reach AAP’s Punjab unit president Aman Arora for comment remained unsuccessful.
Party spokesperson Harchand Singh Barsat also distanced himself from the development, stating, “I have no information about this matter.”
As of now, the government has not issued any official communication explaining the reason behind the security withdrawal.
