Chandigarh, Feb 23: A major boost to Punjab’s industrial sector was confirmed on Monday as Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced the March opening of Tata Steel’s ₹3,200 crore plant in Ludhiana. The facility marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to attract high-value global investments and modern manufacturing infrastructure.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the new unit will provide 2,500 jobs, helping to strengthen the local economy. He stated that the government’s proactive governance and industry-friendly policies were instrumental in facilitating the construction of the 115-acre site in a timely manner.
“This facility is the second largest plant of Tata Steel in India after Jamshedpur,” Mann declared. He maintained that the investment serves as a testament to the industrial resurgence currently taking place across the state.
Regarding the technical aspects of the plant, the Chief Minister asserted that the use of Electric Arc Furnace technology represents a commitment to sustainable production. He noted that by using scrap metal as the primary raw material, the plant will maintain a lower carbon footprint than conventional steel mills.
The Chief Minister declared that the state would continue to safeguard the interests of large-scale investors to ensure long-term economic stability. He asserted that the commencement of operations in Ludhiana is just one part of a broader series of welfare and development measures designed to benefit every section of society.
