PURANA RAJPURA, May 26 — Punjab Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh laid the foundation stone for a ₹33.66 crore pipelined water supply project under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme at Purana Rajpura today. The project, driven by sustained efforts from Rajpura MLA Neena Mittal, targets clean drinking water provision to nearly 50,000 residents across 10,000 households.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Singh underscored the state government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to building a “clean and prosperous Punjab.” He said, “If we still fail to provide clean drinking water to people, we will never be able to forgive ourselves. Previous governments have long neglected this basic need.”
The project involves strengthening the existing distribution network and laying a 57.30-kilometer pipeline covering Old Rajpura and Rajpura Town. MLA Neena Mittal elaborated that the first phase will focus on upgrading key rising mains, distribution lines, and domestic connections. A direct rising main, or hotline, will also be installed from the water works to Old Rajpura to ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean water.
Punjab State Water Supply and Sewerage Board chairman Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, ADC (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SDM Avikesh Gupta, EO Avtar Chand, and several local residents attended the ceremony.
The project marks a key step toward addressing the long-standing water supply challenges in the area, promising improved quality of life for Purana Rajpura’s residents.
