KILLI CHAHAL Feb 16 — At a large-scale rally in Moga district, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann affirmed the state’s commitment to uprooting drug networks, stating that the success of the campaign rests on public trust. The Chief Minister maintained that since the anti-drug crusade began in March 2025, the movement has gained significant momentum through the active participation of residents.

The Chief Minister stated that more than 1.5 lakh members have enrolled in Village Defence Committees (VDCs), with 70,000 already receiving identity cards. He noted that a dedicated mobile application allows these members to share confidential information, which has already led to approximately 17,000 arrests based on 33,000 tips. He affirmed that the identity of all informers remains strictly protected to encourage continued cooperation.

During the event, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh declared that 2,046 kg of drugs were recovered in 2025 and that 25,000 youths have been successfully rehabilitated. Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia described the VDC members as the “live cameras” of the government, maintaining that their vigilance has saved thousands from addiction.

The rally concluded with a collective oath led by Chief Minister Mann, where attendees pledged to make their villages drug-free. The administration also honored several VDC members with cash prizes for their role in the seizure of 43 kg of heroin. Chief Secretary KAP Sinha stated that while the government drive is robust, the total eradication of the issue is only possible through sustained public collaboration.
