Mohali, March 28: The Punjab Congress has lost one of its most enduring figures with the passing of Lal Singh, a former Cabinet Minister and senior vice-president of the state unit. Lal Singh, who was approximately 83 years old, died on Saturday after a prolonged period of hospitalization for age-related health complications.

The veteran politician represented a disappearing era of lifelong party commitment, having first contested elections in the late 1970s. Throughout his tenure as a six-time MLA, he was known for his deep roots in the Sanaur constituency. Leaders from across party lines declared that his presence was a stabilizing force within the state’s political landscape for over 45 years.

In recent years, Lal Singh continued to influence party strategy and internal governance. He famously prioritized party discipline during the 2017 election cycle, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership to the next generation while maintaining his own standing as a senior advisor.

“His political acumen ensured that he commanded respect regardless of who held the Chief Minister’s office,” the party affirmed, noting his ability to navigate complex legislative environments. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced shortly, as the state remembers a leader known for both his strategic mind and his personal loyalty to the Congress cause.
