Kapurthala, May 18 — Punjab Police have cracked a kidnapping and murder case within 24 hours of recovering an unidentified body, arresting seven individuals and seizing two vehicles used in the crime.

The breakthrough followed the discovery of a man’s body on May 14, found near roadside bushes close to Majha Petrol Pump at Fattudhinga village in Kapurthala district.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora said the case began when Inspector Sonamdeep Kaur, Station House Officer at Fattudhinga police station, received information about an unidentified corpse. Police shifted the body to the mortuary at Kapurthala Civil Hospital for examination and initiated an investigation.

Matching the physical description with missing persons records, police identified the deceased as Sodhi Singh, son of Gurnam Singh, a resident of Sarhali Kalan village in Tarn Taran. The identification was later confirmed by the victim’s brother, Jagraj Singh.

An FIR was registered against Jagmohan Singh of Bhulath village in Kapurthala and several unidentified individuals under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A special investigation team was constituted under the supervision of SP (Detective) Prabhjot Singh Virk and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gurmeet Singh. The team included DSP Parminder Singh, Inspector Jarnail Singh of the CIA wing in Kapurthala, Inspector Sonamdeep Kaur, and Inspector Arjan Singh.

Using CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and local intelligence, the police arrested the main accused, Jagmohan Singh, within 12 hours of beginning the investigation.

During interrogation, Jagmohan admitted to harboring a personal grudge against the victim. He reportedly discussed the matter with his brother-in-law, Gurnek Singh, a resident of Katarian village in SBS Nagar. On May 9, Gurnek visited Jagmohan’s home in Bhulath, where the two allegedly planned the abduction and murder of Sodhi Singh.

Further questioning is underway, and police are working to determine the involvement of additional suspects.
