CHANDIGARH, June 14 — In a major push towards transparency and accountability in land revenue services, Punjab has launched the Easy Jamabandi portal, offering five key digital services aimed at dismantling long-standing corruption in the revenue department.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Anurag Verma said the portal is a direct blow to the “patwari raj” that has dominated revenue services for decades. “For years, patwaris have demanded bribes to release basic land documents. This portal makes it impossible for them to delay or deny services,” Verma said.
The portal, officially launched on Thursday by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, allows access to:
- Jamabandi via WhatsApp,
- Online intkal (mutation),
- Rapat entry,
- Fard badar (land record correction), and
- Land record protection subscriptions.
“Now, these services are not just online, but time-bound,” Verma added. “If a citizen lodges a complaint on the portal regarding corrupt practices or delays, the respective deputy commissioner is immediately alerted and must take action.”
Punjab Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian reinforced the government’s zero-tolerance stance. “The AAP government is acting tough. We will not let citizens be exploited by corrupt staff,” he said.
Beneficiaries present at the launch shared how the digital system has simplified the process. “Earlier we had to run after patwaris and still face delays. Now, I got my fard document sitting at home in just a few clicks,” said a landowner from Moga.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader digital governance push and intends to build public trust by eliminating middlemen, ensuring timely service delivery, and making land records secure and easily accessible.
