Punjab RTOs Go Faceless, Services to Be Offered at Sewa Kendras

Ludhiana, October 29: Easing access to public services, the Punjab government is set to introduce faceless operations in all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), allowing residents to complete transport-related work at their nearest Sewa Kendras instead of visiting the RTOs.

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will inaugurate the initiative in Ludhiana, marking a major shift toward citizen-friendly governance in the transport sector.

“The focus is on convenience and efficiency,” said Varun Roojam, Administrative Secretary of the Transport Department. “All 56 services linked to RTOs will now be available through Sewa Kendras, so citizens won’t need to travel long distances or stand in queues.”

Officials said Sewa Kendra staff have been specially trained to process driving licences, registration certificates, and vehicle permits. In Ludhiana, about 50 Sewa Kendras are being readied to handle the workload.

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said the faceless system would reduce waiting times and paperwork. “Applicants will be informed through email or SMS if any clarification or document is required. This step will enhance transparency and ensure accountability in service delivery,” he mentioned.
