MOGA, Aug 13 — A one-minute, three-second video showing a Punjab education official dancing with his wife inside his office in Bagha Purana, Moga district, has led to his immediate suspension, the Education Department said Wednesday.
Block Education Primary Officer Devi Prasad was removed from duty after the clip spread on social media, with orders issued by Education Secretary Anindita Mitra on the direction of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
“There is no place for negligence, indiscipline or unethical work in the education system,” Bains said in a statement. “Strict action will be taken against any officer or employee who breaks rules or neglects duty. The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to discipline and high moral values in school administration for the benefit of students and staff.”
The video, reportedly recorded in the officer’s workplace, features the Bollywood song Tum Ruthi Raho Aur Main Manata Rahoon playing in the background as Prasad and his wife dance. Social media users criticised the scene, questioning the conduct of education officials.
District-level officers initially declined comment, but action followed later in the evening after the minister’s orders.
Prasad, a native of Ferozepur, defended himself, saying the incident took place after office hours to mark his wedding anniversary. “My wife came, and we celebrated. Someone made my video viral — this is wrong. I will complain to the police against that person,” he
