Chandigarh, Feb 26: The Bhagwant Mann administration has moved to replace traditional teaching methods with technology-driven smart classrooms as part of a comprehensive ₹400 crore reform. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains noted that the delivery of new computers and interactive panels has already commenced, with a target completion date of March 20 for all districts.
Minister Bains affirmed that the systemic reform focuses on bridging the digital divide between public and private education. He stated that interactive flat panels will be distributed to all Senior Secondary and High schools, with larger institutions receiving up to eight units based on their enrollment. The Minister declared that digital literacy is now being treated as a fundamental right for every student in the public system.
The initiative also includes the establishment of dedicated computer labs in 5,000 schools. The Minister asserted that for too long, students were forced to use outdated systems that barely functioned. He maintained that the shift to modern software and hardware marks a permanent change in the state’s pedagogical approach.
“We want the community to see the change in the government education system,” the Minister stated during a press conference at Punjab Bhawan. He declared that by inviting parents and retired teachers to witness the new era of digital education, the government hopes to demonstrate the true scale of the internal transformation within these schools.
Regarding recent judicial observations on teacher qualifications, the Minister asserted that the government remains in constant contact with teacher unions. He declared that the administration is committed to securing the employment of its staff while pursuing legal solutions to address recent mandates.
