Chandigarh, March 29: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the state will implement zone-wise paddy sowing starting June 1. The move aims to prevent crop moisture issues and reduce market losses for farmers.
Speaking on the new sowing strategy, Mann said Punjab will be divided into four zones, with seven districts in each.
Water will be supplied through canals and tubewells, while hybrid seeds will be banned. The government will provide farmers with appropriate seeds.
The CM explained that early sowing will help control moisture levels, ensuring crops meet the Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) 18% moisture limit, preventing spoilage in markets.
