CHANDIGARH, Aug. 16 2025 — The Punjab government is set to launch a new wave of rural transportation with the introduction of 100 mini buses under the Punjab Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), officials said. The service will connect villages directly with nearby cities, markets, and other key locations.
PRTC Chairman Dr. Ranjodh Singh Hadana said the mini buses are specifically designed to serve areas where large buses cannot enter or are not economically viable due to low passenger numbers. “This initiative will not only provide convenience to students, laborers, and daily commuters but will also strengthen the rural economy,” he said.
Officials noted that the scheme is expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles, save fuel, and make the transport system safer. The government sees the move as a step toward improving village-to-city connectivity, facilitating easier access to employment, education, and health services.
Villagers have welcomed the announcement, calling it a “transport revolution” that could transform daily life in rural Punjab. The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize public transport and ensure equitable mobility across the state.
