Punjab to Oppose Central ‘Encroachment’: Mann

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Dec 23: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday accused the Centre of attempting to erode the state’s authority by seeking control over key institutions, including the Bhakra Beas Management Board, Panjab University and Chandigarh.

“The Centre is trying to take over BBMB, Panjab University and even Chandigarh,” Mann said. “We will oppose and foil all such attempts and will not allow them to succeed.”

Addressing newly elected members of zila parishads and block samitis, Mann said Punjab’s development agenda would not be hampered by a lack of funds. He asserted that the state government had adequate resources to carry forward its programs.

“There is no shortage of funds for Punjab’s development,” he said, adding that civic issues such as garbage disposal, streetlighting and sewage management would be resolved soon.

Mann urged local body representatives to serve all residents, regardless of political affiliation. “They represent even those who did not vote for them,” he said. “It is their duty to work for the welfare of all sections with missionary zeal so that Punjab becomes a frontrunner in every field.”

The chief minister also announced that the Aam Aadmi Party government would soon roll out the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, a health insurance scheme aimed at expanding access to medical care.

Under the scheme, Mann said, about 65 lakh families would be eligible for cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh annually in both government and private hospitals.

“These steps are meant to ensure dignity, security and better living standards for every Punjabi,” he added.
